How to get to King Island Lodge


Nestor Falls is located 70 miles from the border crossing at either Baudette or International Falls, MN. Drive east from Baudette/Rainy River or west from International Falls/Fort Frances on Hwy 11 to Hwy 7I. Travel north on Hwy 71. Hanson's King Island Lodge is a scenic 12 mile boat trip from the government dock on Dock Road in downtown Nestor Falls.


From Kenora, Ontario travel east on Hwy 17, take the turnoff onto Hwy 71 south, just east of Kenora. If you are flying, Northwest Airlink services International Falls and Kenora from the U.S. via Minneapolis. Bearskin Airlines provides service to Kenora from within Canada. Shuttle service is available from both International Falls (70 miles) and Kenora (80 miles) to Nestor Falls.

You should have no trouble entering or leaving Canada. You are required to carry 2 pieces of identification with you, including a birth certificate or passport. One piece of photo identification is necessary. If travelling with children, please ensure that you have their birth certificates with you. If you are travelling with children other than your own, you should have a letter from the parents giving you permission for their children to be in your care.

Canada does not allow you to bring your handguns into the country. Please leave your radar detector at home as well, as these will be confiscated if detected. The importation of live baitfish is also prohibited.

In Spring and Fall you should be prepared for wide variations in temperature. Mornings and evenings tend to be cool and daytime temperatures quite pleasant. Pack layers, and don't forget to bring both sunscreen and raingear.

From the middle of June though the end of August you will find the temperatures generally in the 70's and 80's. Weather tends to be more stable and be sure to pack your swimsuit as lake surface temperatures easily reach the mid to high 70's
